The Stories They Store

The Stories They Store

The lush greenery that surrounded me as a child growing up in gardens and open fields has been calling to me in my dreams. This soulful, secret collection of mine allows me to feel calm and whole, as I let my mind wander.

My mind wanders through not only laughter but fear as well. Like how you can be afraid as a child, but when you are an adult and it grips you in a new way with the threat of the unknown.

When Covid hit it changed our world, our lives, everything. I felt that massive fear of the unknown and the world shutting down. A trauma. And yet everyone seems to have moved on. Maybe as a sensitive soul it’s less easy to pretend it never happened as the world spins on around us.

I missed my family, and I and many others created a space where I could feel as at home as possible. Surrounded by the things that made me feel loved and safe. The art industry boomed. The plant industry boomed. House plants became companions with souls and stories of their own. The strawberry plants we watered fed my children along side sourdough and homemade kombucha.

In someways we were closer.

Through art I explore this concept of how that time in our lives has forever left us changed, yet we pretend it never happened. Do humans move on too quick from trauma or is that how we survive?

Basically I need to speak, paint, cry, laugh every thought out, until I understand what it all means. Until I can see it’s beauty, even when it’s not pretty. So I feel less alone. Even if it is only to be surrounded my the emerald green of these plant spirits breathing alongside me.

I don't ever want to stop collecting plants, or art, or connections. We all just need a little more love and greenery in our lives.
